About folders in Inspect

In the Inspect phase of Epiq Discovery, Project manager or higher roles can organize a folder structure for documents in the project. You can view, add, modify, move, and delete folders as needed. You can move any files from the Document Grid into folders during Inspect. Folders that you add in Inspect will appear in Review. The files in the same folder in Inspect and Review differ because only promoted files appear in folders during the Review phase.

Project Manager or higher roles can secure specific folders as needed by setting permissions so that only specific user groups can access the folders. You can set the folder permissions when creating or editing a top-level folder in the FOLDERS pane. The system applies the top-level folder permission to all the subfolders, and you cannot modify the subfolder permission. This feature enables you to grant users access to a limited scope of documents for review.

The typical workflow for setting up securable folders includes the following steps in order.

  1. In Project Settings, create your user groups. Refer to Add a group for more information.

  2. Add users to the user groups when adding a user or editing user information. Refer to Add multiple users to a role in a project or Modify user information for more information.

  3. When creating a new folder or editing existing folders, restrict the folder access to one or more user groups. Refer to Add a folder in Inspect or Modify a folder in Inspect for more information.
