About Near Dupe and Threading in Inspect

The Near Dupe and Threading (NDT) job runs Near Dupe Detection and Email Threading actions. You can run the NDT job in the following areas.

  • In Inspect or Review, when you use the Near Dupe and Threading (NDT) document action.

  • When promoting documents as part of filtering or in the Promote document action.

NDT document action allows you to run Near Duplicate Detection and Email Threading on selected documents. When you run the document action, the system applies Near Duplicate Detection to both email and non‑email documents and applies Email Threading to email documents. You can choose to run Near Duplicate Detection, Email Threading, or both, and you can include or exclude email documents from Near Duplicate Detection.

During promotion, NDT runs automatically if you enable the feature in Project Settings. The system applies Email Threading to email documents and Near Duplicate Detection to non‑email documents.

Email Threading

Email Threading analyzes the relationship between email files and identifies whether an email is thread inclusive. Thread‑inclusive email files contain all previous messages in the thread. The system performs email threading using email header metadata. If these properties are not available, the system uses text comparison techniques instead. When the NDT job completes, Epiq Discover populates the email threading fields.

You can enable or disable threading analysis for emails without a Message ID in Project Settings. If emails are skipped from threading when you disable threading analysis for emails without a Message ID, the Processing Information field displays Email threading skipped due to missing Message ID.

Near Dupe Detection

Near Dupe Detection analyzes documents for near matches based on the similarity threshold you set and then groups similar documents together. The system populates fields to show near dupe information.
